We know that we’ve been offering up ideas for how to keep active during lockdown but we also know how hard it can be to motivate yourself. So, how can you do it? Maybe our new home workout generator will help?

Family watching a film together

Movie night

We wouldn’t blame anyone for taking the opportunity to sit down and binge their favourite shows or films during lockdown. Why not combine the two? Instead of cuddling up in something comfy, put on your training wear and get fit as you watch.

Sofa workout

You could make it simple and just workout from your sofa as there are plenty of great ways that you can do to incorporate it. Instead of eating handfuls of popcorn, give the following exercises a try:

  • Bicycle crunches – Sit on your sofa and engage your core. Lift both of your legs and bend your knees. Move your knees as though you’re pedalling a bike. Aim for at least 20 reps.
  • Leg Raises – Sit on your sofa, engage your core, and slowly bring your legs up. When they are straight, hold them for a few seconds and slowly lower them. Then repeat. Aim for at least 10 reps.
  • Leg pull-ins – Sit on your sofa, engage your core and bring your legs up. Keep them straight and then slowly pull them towards you. Straighten them and repeat. Aim for at least 10 reps.

  • Overhead punches – Sit on the edge of your sofa with your feet on the floor, engage your core, hold your fists up and punch upwards
  • Punches – Sit on the edge of your sofa with your feet on the floor, engage your core, hold your fists up and punch forwards. Aim for at least 40 reps.
  • Raised leg circles – Sit on your sofa, engage your core and bring your legs up so they are straight in front of you. Move your feet in a full circle. Aim for at least 5 clockwise and 5  anticlockwise.
  • Tricep dips – Place your hands shoulder-width apart on the edge of your sofa. Extend your legs in front of you and keep your arms straight. Lower your body by bending your elbows and keep going until they reach a 90-degree angle. Go back to the starting position and repeat. Aim for at least 10 reps.

Tailor your home workout

You can go one step further and set yourself a home workout challenge that’s based on your favourite film. This is a great way to get kids involved. Keep them entertained with their favourite films and keep them active. Watching becomes a game. It couldn’t be simpler.

  • Before you start watching, make a list of any repeated moments in the film that you can look out for.
  • Assign each attribute an exercise and establish how many reps each one gets.
  • Sit down to watch your film and do the exercise whenever the corresponding attribute appears on screen.
